The Sudima Group has a rich and storied history that can be traced back to its very humble beginnings more than 100 years ago. Throughout the decades, we have evolved and grown, yet we remain deeply connected to our roots. 1918

Brijlal Jhunjhnuwala moved to Yangon, Myanmar where he started his first textile shop.

1940

Due to the Japanese occupation of Myanmar, Mr. Brijlal Jhunjhnuwala and his family left the country as refugees. They took the land route to India.

After the War

The family returned to Myanmar and Mr. Jhunjhnuwala set up a trading company. This company focused on importing textiles and other popular trade goods.

50s/60s

Mr. Brijlal Jhunjhnuwala’s sons, Chhanulal, Shyam Sundar, and Laxmi Niwas Jhunjhnuwala, were in charge of the company and together they set up their first textile mill in Myanmar followed by the second one three years later.

60s

Due to changes in the political landscape, the entire family had relocated to Hong Kong, where they continued their trading business and set up a watch manufacturing facility

1977

The group decided to venture into the hospitality industry, buying the Oberoi Imperial Hotel in Singapore.

1987

The watch manufacturing business split into three equal shares for the brothers. Mr. Laxmi Niwas Jhunjhnuwala’s watch manufacturing facility, Hind International Investment Limited, is still running today. It is operated by his youngest son Mr. Manoj Kumar Jhunjhnuwala.

1991

Taking advantage of attractive returns, Mr. Niwas decided to start an investing company in New Zealand. Over the next 5 years he had amassed properties over NZ$100 million.

1993

Mr. Niwas’s second youngest son, Mr. Anil Kumar Jhunjhnuwala, moved to Singapore to expand the family business and started the commodity trading company Sudima International Pte. Ltd. Back then Mr. Anil operated out of one office with 4 staff members. Today he has offices in over 20 countries, and employs over 1000 people.

1999

The family sold the Oberoi Imperial Hotel in Singapore. Soon after, Mr. Niwas took over the New Zealand portfolio from the rest of the family.

2000

Mr. Niwas bought the Airport Plaza Hotel which was situated at the Christchurch Airport. It was a 3-star 156 room hotel. Since then it’s been developed into a 242 room, 4-star hotel.

2001

Mr. Sudesh, the 2nd son of Mr. Niwas, located to NZ to drive the business further. Over the next few years, many of the existing properties were sold and new properties including new hotels were added to the portfolio.

2006

Anil Kumar Jhunjhnuwala continues to grow the trading business, headquartered in Singapore with a focus on four pillars: Timber, Textiles, Agro-Commodities, and Pharmaceuticals

2008

Sudima International opens its first factory in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam for furniture manufacturing. Sudima Panels is born.

2009

Sudima International becomes apart of the Global Trader Program by the Singaporean Government

2011

Sudima International is awarded and a part of Singapore 1000 – the top 1000 SME’s in Singapore.

2012

Sudima International receives its first E50 award – a prestigious award in Singapore allotted to the top 50 SME’s that year and was placed 36th.

2015

Sudima International opens 2 factories in Surabaya, Indonesia – Along with its partners, the factories do job-work to produce sawn timber and veneers.

2017

Sudima International is claims its 5th year award with E50 along with being awarded with being 7th place that year

2022

Sudima International dives into Real Estate – purchasing 2 iconic properties – Westech and Solitaire in Singapore

2024

Sudima International, along with its strategic partners diversifies into Dubai and starts a real-estate development company: The Drawing Room

2025

Sudima International expands its real-estate portfolio in Dubai by purchasing an apartment building in Discovery Gardens consisting of 100 apartment units. Moreover, integration continues as they purchase Global Sealing Pty Ltd – a sealing company for silos based in Australia.
